INITIAL 30-HOUR (FOUNDATIONAL) CREDITS
Nature & Needs of Gifted Learners (For Teachers) Introductory course providing an overview of the characteristics and unique needs of students with high academic ability. (6 Credit Hours).
Identification & Assessment of Gifted Learners How does a school system decide what "gifted" is? Are there different types of "gifted?" How do we make sure we are finding all the hidden gems (6 Credit Hours)?
Enhancing Creativity in the Classroom What is creativity, and how do we develop it in ourselves and in our students? (6 Credit Hours).
Social Emotional Learning for Gifted Students "Our kids are normal. They just aren't typical..." This course delves into the social and emotional learning needs that all children have, but in particular, those which may be more likely to be present in gifted learners (6 Credit Hours).
Differentiation for Advanced Learners The importance of differentiated instruction in meeting the needs of every student cannot be overstated. This course dives deeply into what that means for gifted students (6 Credit Hours).
At a district request, Introduction to Depth & Complexity can be substituted for one of the above.
G/T UPDATE (ELECTIVE) CREDITS
Differentiation for Advanced Learners The importance of differentiated instruction in meeting the needs of every student cannot be overstated. This course dives deeply into what that means for gifted students. Available for both three (3) and six (6) credit hours.
Twice-Exceptional Learners (2e) What’s not often well-known or well-understood is that students who are gifted may also have a special need or disability— just as students with disabilities may also be gifted. Available for both three (3) and six (6) credit hours.
The Excellence Gap “The Excellence gap” refers to the disparity in the percentage of lower-income versus higher-income students who reach advanced levels of academic performance. The “gap” appears in elementary school and continues as students move through school. Available as a (3) credit hour course only.
Tech Tools for Differentiation Upgrade your differentiation game as you explore the best tech tools out there to differentiate instruction for your gifted learners. Available for both three (3) and six (6) credit hours.
Introduction to Depth & Complexity This course will provide you with the knowledge and practice to get started using the depth and complexity thinking prompts to help develop higher levels of thinking in all of your students. Available as a six (6) hour course.
Collaboration in the G/T Classroom Collaborative involves students working in pairs or small groups to discuss concepts or find solutions to problems. Similar to the idea that two or three heads are better than one, educational researchers have found that through peer instruction, students teach each other by addressing misunderstandings and clarifying misconceptions. Explore the tools and methods that will push your gifted learners further. Available as a (3) credit hour course only.
Vertical Differentiation for Gifted Learners Explores interactive methods and techniques to expand students' thinking, encourage profound learning, and introduce different levels of difficulty. Each strategy and tool is crafted to encourage extensive exploration and conceptual comprehension by instructing students to defend their conclusions, use critical and creative thinking, generate solutions for real-world predicaments, and apply their knowledge to various situations. This course is filled with both established thinking models and fresh, inventive concepts guaranteeing that students will be stimulated and challenged. Available as a six (6) hour course. New for Summer 2023.
ADMINISTRATOR & COUNSELOR
Nature & Needs of Gifted Learners (For Counselors & Administrators) Introductory course providing an overview of the characteristics and unique needs of students with high academic ability. Sections tailored specifically to counselors and administrators. Includes programming options and affective needs (6 Credit Hours).
Gifted Policy & Compliance for Texas Principals (Administrators) This course will walk administrators through the policy and compliance requirements for gifted education in Texas, with a focus on the Texas State Plan for Gifted/Talented Education. Available as a (3) hour credit. New for Summer 2023.
